General Background

The Agriculture Mechanization and Rural Energy Research, under the Tigray Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), is dedicated to advancing agricultural mechanization and rural energy technologies in the Tigray region. As both a research and manufacturing, we develop innovative solutions to enhance agricultural productivity, improve post-harvest processes, and provide sustainable rural energy options.

Agricultural mechanization and rural energy research consist of three research case-teams namely pre-harvest, postharvest and rural energy research. In addition to these case-teams it also embraces socio-economic research department with the objective of to promote completed technologies. Agriculture Mechanization and Rural Energy Research owns a workshop with the aim of manufacturing and multiplication of agricultural and alternative energy technologies.

Mission

The mission of agricultural mechanization and rural energy research is to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and productivity of agricultural practices through the development, multiplication, promotion and implementation of advanced agricultural technologies and energy solutions. This research aims to optimize the use of machinery and equipment in agriculture, as well as explore alternative energy sources to support rural communities and agricultural operations. By bridging the gap between technology and agriculture, our mission is to equip farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to increase efficiency and overcome challenges.

Vision

The vision of agricultural mechanization and rural energy research is to create a bright future of Tigray where advanced technologies and sustainable energy solutions are seamlessly integrated into agricultural practices and thereby empower smallholder Tigray farmers and improve their livelihoods.
